Our Review

The hairpin turn on Route 2 in North Adams is a beloved scenic destination and drive by that offers panoramic views. It is a part of the Mohawk trail, which spans for about 63 miles. This trail is known both locally and nationally for the great views drivers encounter. Many come to this scenic New England destination throughout the seasons. However, the ideal time to drive here is said to be in the fall, when the ocean of tree leaves below turn burgundy, amber, and mustard. The hairpin turn on Route 2 is 1,700 feet above sea level and looks out at the Hoosac Valley, Mount Greylock, Mount Prospect and more.

The turn is on the Western summit—deemed the Spirit Mountain by Native Americans—and can be a great place to watch the sun go down while observing parts of southern Vermont and northern Berkshire county. There’s also a restaurant on the turn that is adjacent to the lookout called the Golden Eagle. The eatery has been serving food since 1914, but has been safely relocated a bit farther back behind the recess in the mountain since 1958. Since the hairpin turn sits directly on the North Adams and Clarksburg town line, the restaurant is actually in Clarksburg. 

Closeby to the hairpin turn is MASS MoCA, another aesthetic pleasure. This contemporary art museum was crafted from an old factory building and now draws in guests from every corner of the United States and beyond. There’s immersive exhibits, food, a brewery, and shops all on site.

Closed Event: Chapter activities are conducted primarily for the benefit of H.O.G. Chapter members. Closed Events are those events open to Chapter members and one guest per member.  All guests must sign an event release. Be aware, all rides and events are subject to change or cancellation due to weather or other circumstances beyond our control.

Impairment Policy: The consumption and use of alcohol is a serious personal responsibility involving the safety of family, riding friends and the individual HOG member. Alcohol consumption before or during a motorcycling activity is not safe, responsible behavior. Merrimack Valley MA/NH Chapter #3185 does not allow the use of alcohol or drugs before or during a riding event* and does not furnish alcohol at Chapter rides. Riders whose skills are observed or suspected to be impaired by alcohol or drugs before riding cannot join the ride. Riders using alcohol or drugs while riding will be asked to leave the ride. It is the responsibility of each Template Chapter member to support the consistent enforcement of this policy
